Get the Kids into Vacation Scrapbooking

Family vacation time is the time to make memories that last. If you are taking school-aged children along for the ride, you have all kinds of options available to help them make the most of every minute. If making sure they have a way to record and cherish precious moments is important, you can help them create their own vacation scrapbooks.

Scrapbooking is a project the entire family can get into. If you plant the idea for the project into their minds before you leave, chances are they will find lots of things along the way to observe, record and even pick up to go in their books.

To help youngsters get started in vacation scrapbooking, you will need to arm them with a few basic supplies. Before the trip, give them each their own blank scrapbooks or photo albums. Tell them they can fill the pages with the pictures they take and memorabilia they pick up on the trip. If they have their own cameras, make sure they bring them. If they do not and you are not keen on spending a lot of money, pick up some disposable cameras to put in their hands. They can leave the books at home.

As you travel, encourage them to take pictures of the things they enjoy or that intrigue them. Use your own camera to get plenty of family shots they can use to fill out the books. Also, encourage them to pick up small items to remind them of places that become special to them. Printed napkins, fliers, advertisements, brochures and so on can all make great items to place in a scrapbook.

Once the trip is done and everyone has had a chance to relax, creating the actual scrapbooks can be a great way to enjoy a little more together time. Plan a day or days to put them together and encourage your children to be creative and have fun saving their special memories.

Scrapbooking is a great way to keep the kids busy on vacation. The finished products can also help them recall special times years down the road.
