Go ‘Wild’ to Pass the Time
Making sure children are occupied on a road trip can be quite the chore, but it does not have to be. If your trip will take you into undeveloped areas, just point their noses out the windows to keep an eye out for wildlife. If you turn it into a game everyone can play, the miles will pass before you know it.
Before you hit the road, create a scavenger hunt of sorts by printing out information on the animals and birds that are native to the areas you will pass through. Get some pictures of the creatures and create a list. See who can spot the most as you traverse highways, byways and back country roads on your trip. Older children can generally work on their own, but a team competition can be fun, as well.
Should you have young children in the car, consider printing out coloring pages of the creatures they might spot along the way. Keep some crayons stowed in the car and let them color the animals and birds they spot. If you cannot find color pages of the birds and animals, just give your children blank sheets of paper and ask them to draw what they have seen.
Helping the miles pass quickly by occupying time with fun activities is a great way to keep a road trip fun for the entire family. If your trip will involve travel through undeveloped areas, a wild scavenger hunt can get the job done.
