Trip Journals Make The Road Memorable
Occupying children in the car is a concern for most parents as they head out the door for family vacations. High-tech solution can work, but they are costly and passive. If the plan is to keep the kids active on the road, journaling can go a long way.
It is the little details about family vacations that kids tend to appreciate the most as they get older. Helping them hang on to those memories can also provide a great way to keep them busy on the road. When children create their own journals, they can record their adventures so they can take their own trips down memory lane later.
Trip journals do not have to be elaborate to be effective. Simple notebooks or composition books will do the job perfectly. Just give the kids their own books along with a fresh supply of pencils or pens to write down their thoughts about where they have visited, what they have seen and what they have done. Younger children can use crayons to draw pictures of their favorite destinations or activities.
Encourage them to write or draw in their journals in between stops on the road or at the end of long days to help them unwind. Make sure to keep their journals in a safe place that can be easily accessed. Journals can also make great companions for scrapbooks that contain pictures and mementos.
Coming up with ways to keep children busy in the car does not have to involve high-tech solutions. A little creativity can go a long way.
