Plan Travel Times for Quiet Rides
Traveling long distances with babies or small children can be extremely intimidating for parents. Even seasoned veterans can turn a little green in the face at the thought. If children are young, however, parents do have an ace in the hole to make the ride a bit less stressful on everyone involved.
So, what is that ace in the hole? Nap time.
When trips are planned around normal night sleeping times or daytime naptimes, parents can get the peace they need to focus on the road. Children, too, tend to fare a little better because they sleep through the miles of confinement, or at least some of them.
To make the most out of natural downtimes for small travelers, plan your actual driving time to coincide. Leave the house at night, for example, rather than first thing in the morning when the child is ready to get up and get moving. If there are concerns about you and your partner being to sleepy to make the most of it, try driving in shifts so one parent can catch a good catnap on the road.
While you might not be able to cover the distance entirely while your child sleeps, you can knock out a pretty good chunk. Doing so will make travel easier on you and more comfortable for your child. After all, little ones are not necessarily fond of being restrained for hours on end while they are awake. Plan wisely and the miles should pass by with relative ease.
