Pick Car Toys with Care
Packing up to hit the road is serious business when you are getting ready for a vacation. If you have children in tow, the job can become even more important. Beyond the basics of clothing, toiletries and maps, what you pack to keep them occupied can mean the difference between a drive time that flies by and a living nightmare on wheels.
So, how do you sort through the toys to decide what to bring along and what should stay at home? Keep these things in mind as you make the selections:
Size – While there are exceptions to every rule, size can be a very important consideration when packing up toys for the kids to play with on the road. Generally, the smaller and more compact the better.
Estimated life – If your children are of the age that electronic toys are preferred, consider their anticipated lifespan on battery power. There is nothing worse than having a movie stop half way on a car ride. If there are concerns on this front, bring along extra batteries to keep things going.
Comfort – If your child has a special toy that provides comfort, do consider bringing it along. Be aware, however, that you will have to keep up with it the entire trip. Losing a favourite teddy bear hundreds of miles from home can be devastating.
Number of parts – It is generally not a good idea to bring along toys that have lots of moving or removable parts. These might be fine for a hotel room, but on the road they can become a big problem.
Car toys are vital for keeping kids occupied and happy as the miles pass. Choose what to bring with care and you will all be happier for it.
