The Magic of the Great Outdoors
The amount of time kids spend with their iPod, BlackBerry or other electronic media is growing, while the amount of time kids spend exploring the great outdoors is dramatically decreasing. Many parents have fond memories of catching frogs, climbing trees or swimming in the local swimming hole and yet many of these activities are completely foreign to their kids. One way to bridge the gap is by sharing these experiences together on a back-to-nature type of vacation.
You say you’ve outgrown tents, campgrounds and mosquito bites? Try renting a cozy beach cottage or stay in a cabin near the mountains. Remember to balance “this whole nature thing” with a bit of the “real world”, especially if this is the first time your family is venturing into the outdoors together. Choose a cottage or cabin that is situated close to shops and restaurants so that you can spend the morning exploring nature, while the rest of the day can be spent browsing the local wares.
There are many types of nature vacations to choose from. You could stay in a Treehouse at a local Treesort, play cowboy on a dude ranch or go snorkeling in tropical waters.
