When Should You Go?
One of the most important aspects of traveling anywhere is in making sure that you allow enough time for the journeys there and back, leaving time in the middle to have a good and relaxed experience. In order to do this it is important to select the right time to set off, making it early enough to get to your destination at the optimum time, while not being too early – children denied their sleep are easily distinguishable from rays of sunshine. However, set off too late and you could find that attractions are closed, too full or just not as good as you may have hoped.
There are more than a few parents who like to set off earlier than they ordinarily would, with the very issue of sleep in mind. Time it right – about halfway into your child’s usual sleep cycle is generally a good rule of thumb – and it can be possible to get your kids into the car without them waking up “too much”, and they’ll get back to sleep in the car. Depending on where you’re going and how far away it is, this can allow you and them the chance to get to the destination in relative comfort and serenity.
Long car journeys are rarely totally straightforward if you are traveling with kids, but allowing them the chance to miss out on the hours of straight-line driving and perhaps wake up to a breakfast stop can really smooth the path like nothing else. Work out a plan in advance – it really pays off.
