Avoid a Rush When Planning Car Trips

You need to get from Point A to Point B in order for your family vacation fun to start. The drive will take about eight hours and that is all you are budgeting into your itinerary.

Hold the phone!

Did you plan on rest stops, snack breaks and a little running around time? If you are traveling with children in the car, you should. While it might take adults eight hours to get from Point A to Point B if they are driving alone, youngsters can and will put a monkey wrench into the works. It is best to plan ahead and mentally budget for at least an extra hour or two to accommodate youthful travelers.

Why not push it?

If you plan your trip with a rushing dash from your starting point to your destination, you are likely to be disappointed along the way. Should you build in a few extra hours for rest stops and other breaks in transit, you will be less stressed. This means your children are likely to be less stressed, too. Remember, kids do need to move about every so often, stretch their legs and recharge. Plan for this and your “schedule” should stay on track.

When it is time to map out a vacation itinerary, take the rush out of the planning. You just might make it to your destination in eight hours, but it is best to prepare for a few extra hours. After all, getting there is half the fun or should be.
