Plan Healthy Snacks for Long Car Rides
Most moms and dads understand that packing a few snacks and drinks for long car rides can lessen the stops and keep grumbling tummies at bay for a time. What to pack, however, can prove to be a quandary. If you are ready to head out for a long-distance ride, healthy snacks can take you and your family the distance.
While it might be easier to load up a cooler with junk food, sweets and other sinful treats, going healthy can pay off for you down the road. The fact of the matter is most family vacations involve a lot of meals out of sacks and other less-than-ideal food choices. This is, after all, a big part of the fun! Still, on the trip, you can do yourself a big favor by steering clear of junk when possible for these reasons:
· The sugar content – Your children will have to endure hours in the car as the miles go by. Do you really want them hyped up on sugary snacks along the way? Of course not!
· The upset stomach factor – Feed them fast-food meals, sugary snacks, chips and other junk as a steady diet on the road and their stomach (and yours) might decide to fight back. There is nothing worse than being hours from home and not feeling good.
· The nutritional value – Yes, vacations are about breaking the rules, but it is still a good idea to make sure they at least get some decent food along the way. Sneak in a few healthy snacks and you will feel better about the giant hot fudge sundaes they will devour at dinner.
Fruits, granola, nuts and other items are perfect snacks to pack for a trip. They can help fill up your little travelers and keep them eating at least slightly healthy along the way.
