Tap Into Imagination To Keep Kids Happy In The Car
Traveling with children in the car is an exercise in patience at best. Keeping them occupied, happy and too busy to ask questions about anticipated arrival time can take everything adults in the car have to give. This does not have to be the case when parents get their little passengers to tap into their imaginations to help them pass the miles.
Young children, teens and even adults will find the miles really do speed by when a simple storytelling game is played. To get started, just think up a crazy line and have each person in the car add their own line to move the action forward. Keep going around the car until the story plays itself out.
Do set a few ground rules for the story. For example, it is okay to say violence is unacceptable if it goes against your grain. Or, maybe you want to set a rule that every other line must be silly or totally outlandish. Just go with what works for you and your family.
As you are playing, do encourage children to be creative, to think out of the box and have fun. Make sure to compliment them on truly unique ideas. Try to coax unusual lines out of them by coming up with a few of your own.
Passing the time on a road trip with children does not have to be an exercise in frustration. Get them to use their imaginations and the miles will fly by.
