Plan Your Family Vacation and Educate Your Children
If you are reading this article, you may be thinking of planning a family vacation and considering the ways that you can get your children involved and excited before the suitcases ever come out of the closet.
Every parent wants to provide their children with a fun travel experience, while also hoping to broaden their horizons and increase their worldview. Studies show that children who have the ability to travel while they are young are more open and accepting of different cultures, different ideas, and are more likely to have an open mind towards different types of food and customs.
Whether you are traveling within North America or if you are planning a trip overseas, as soon as you book your tickets, it is a great idea to run to your local bookstore and check out the children’s travel section.
Consider your destination or the culture that you will be coming in contact with and pick up a few books to read to or with your children prior to taking your trip. Discuss the history of the place you are visiting and talk about the things they have in common with children in that other place.
Another great idea to get them interested and excited in the place you are visiting is to pick up some beginner’s language books or audio tapes that are native to the place you are traveling to. For instance, if you are going to France, consider buying a book or a tape that will allow you and your child to learn some elementary phrases in French. Your child is likely to grasp the beginnings of another language if presented to them as studies show; children are more likely to be able to learn an additional language easier than an adult.
Helping your child develop an interest in the place you are visiting will allow them to have a more rewarding experience once you are already there.
