Take Care Of The Car To Keep Little Holiday Travelers Safe

Family road trips and the holidays do seem to go hand-in-hand. If you are hitting the road this season with little ones along, your first priority should be the safety of your vehicle. After all, you will have special cargo on board. Extra steps are especially required if you will be traveling in areas known for true wintertime weather.

So, what do you need to do to make your car family road trip ready for heading into Northern climates? Beyond the obvious oil change, tune up and once over, make sure you:

  • Fill up the antifreeze
  • Consider snow tires if you are heading into an area known for its flurries and ice slicks
  • Purchase an ice scraper for your windshield
  • Pack an emergency kit that includes tools, first aid supplies, blankets, food and water
  • Charge your cell phone and have a portable charger along for the ride
  • Get a map and plot out multiple routes in case one becomes impassable
  • Check car seats to make sure they are properly secured and are comfortable enough for a long trip

Family fun during the holidays often calls for piling into the car to head to a relative or friend’s home far away. Making sure you and your family arrive safety should be your number one priority.
