Save Cash, Burn Energy With Park Picnics On The Road
Road trips are great for families who want to vacation without spending a fortune. Unfortunately, even they can prove to be a bit expensive. This is especially so if a trip calls for eating out three meals a day during transit.
If you need a way to cut some of the expenses without giving up on the fun, there are plenty of ways to make this happen. Reducing meal costs, for example, is fairly easy if you plan ahead. If the weather happens to be good, you can even kill two birds with one stone by stopping at parks along your travel route for picnic lunches or dinners.
When you choose to stop at local parks, you and your family will be able to enjoy two-fold benefits. First, you can eat a picnic lunch, which will cost you less than eating out. Secondly, parks provide a perfect location for you and your kids to get out and stretch your legs for a time.
To make this happen, start looking for parks along your route when you’re planning your trip. City and county web sites are great places to visit to find parks with good picnic and playground facilities. Once you find a few, you’ll want to consider packing the supplies that will make picnic meals work. A cooler loaded with items to make sandwiches will generally do the trick. Or, you can even plan on grilling since many local parks have barbecues available.
You do not have to eat out three meals a day when you are on the road for a family vacation. Local parks provide a great change of pace from the highway and they can give your children the chance they need to burn off some extra energy.
