Ask Your Child
Trying to decide on a place to take a child on a family trip can sometimes be quite the chore. There is no getting around it; they would often rather be sat in front of the TV than getting in a car to go somewhere that they have not chosen. That is the key thing in this conundrum - the element of choice. Cast your mind back to when you were a child. The likelihood is you were pretty headstrong and had the occasional falling out with your parents over what they considered to be a “fun day out”. Even if it turned out that the trip was pretty cool, it may well have been the case that you decided that you owed it to yourself not to enjoy it. The workings of a kid’s mind are not simple.
Fortunately there is a way to circumvent this whole process. Wait until a time when your kid is in a chatty mood - even the more subdued children will have little pockets of chattiness. Speak to them about what they enjoy, what they want to do and where they would like to go for a day out. Make it all seem like it’s their idea. You can instil enthusiasm for travel into even those kids who seem like they would never leave the house, given the choice. If a day out ties in with their interests, then you will see a side to your kid you may not even have realized existed.
