“Are We There Yet?”

This has got to be the number one most irritating question on any family vacation. Children haven’t yet learned how to politely mask their feelings of hunger, fatigue or boredom. In fact, they can be quite loud in making their needs known and relentless in their demands. So how do you bring out the best in your children on your next family vacation? Below are a few tips to help you create an enjoyable experience for the whole family.

1.    Snacks: Stock up on sliced or dried fruit, crackers, granola bars and other kid favorites. Everyone is happier with a full tummy – and they can’t ask that dreaded question when their mouth is full!

2.    Beverages: Water is great for washing down those snacks or for cleaning hands, faces and even clothes in a pinch. Also, it’s not sticky when spilled.

3.    Entertainment: Keeping kids occupied is the best way to stay sane. Pack iPods, MP3 players or music and books on CD. Also include drawing pads, colored pencils and handheld games. A few DVD’s and a portable DVD player can come in handy too.

Regardless of what you pack, spend some time considering your child and their specific needs and pack accordingly.
