Variety is the Spice of Life

Children are creatures of habit. At a certain age, most of us will probably have had a favorite food that, without fail, we would request for dinner just about every evening. As parents, we know well enough that a balanced diet demands variety, and have to decline a request to have hamburgers for a third consecutive night. It is something of an education – a broadening of experience which, even if the child is not overjoyed about it at the time, serves them well later on.

When it comes to holidays, some kids would prefer to go to the same place every time – as many as ten times in a row – because they know they like it. But there is something to be said for a change of scenery. In this respect an adult has to become skilled at “selling” an idea to their child. Maybe your child believes that there is nowhere better than Disneyland – but by using your imagination and encouraging theirs, you can make them see that there are many other good destinations.

If you tend to go abroad for your holidays, then there is every reason why you should encourage this kind of variety all the more. The differing cultures of the world are endlessly fascinating and knowledge of them can serve a person well in a number of ways. Giving your child this knowledge is a worthy thing to do.
