Ready the Car for Summer Road Trips

Summer is just around the corner and that means it is almost travel time. If you are planning to take your kids on the road for daytrips or extended vacations, safety is likely your top concern.

Before you hit the road, make sure to do a few things to ensure that you and your family arrive without delays. Some of the things to put on a To Do list in advance of a family car tip include:

  • Basic maintenance – You will, of course, want to take your vehicle in and make sure it is road ready. Do get the oil changed, have the tires checked and top off other fluids. Make any repairs that are necessary, too.
  • Child safety – Traveling with children can require a few extra considerations beyond the basic maintenance of your vehicle. Make sure you have your child safety seat or seats properly installed and consider installing other items that can increase their comfort and safety and improve the trip for everyone. Shades to block the sun from little faces, mirrors so you can see into the back seat and even special latch protectors so toddlers cannot get out when you are on the road can all help immensely.
  • First aid – It is always a good idea to make sure a well-stocked first aid kit is in a car prior to pulling out for a vacation or even a road trip. Bandages, antibiotic cream, bug bite ointment and other little items can make a huge difference if a minor emergency arises.

Summertime is family vacation time. Make sure your road trip is great by planning ahead.
